Often times in life when we hear of tragedy in our community we ask ourselves how we can help or make an impact. I was struck with this thought when the recent events of a Dover man’s life where brought to my attention. Donny Pelletier, a Dover resident, who is also a father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, was involved in a life-threatening motorcycle accident that shut down Route 16 in Dover, NH on October 19th, 2017 for three-plus hours. He was transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover where he was then med-lifted to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA where he spent nearly three weeks in a coma in both the trauma and surgical ICUs. After that, he spent an additional two months in two rehabilitation hospitals. Miraculously, in mid-January, Donny returned to his home where he would continue his recovery through occupational and physical therapy for many months to come. However, tragedy struck again, on the night of January 30th, 2018, only two weeks after his homecoming, when there was a three-alarm fire at his home on Arbor Dr. in Dover, NH, leaving Donny literally with the clothes on his back. The fire also claimed three of his pets. While insurance will cover part of the loss, Donny’s medical expenses in addition to the tragic loss of his home have created significant financial hardship for him. His family is graciously helping, but imagine the impact we could make coming together as fellow members of the Dover community and yogis!
